Master Pat Hancock

Master Pat Hancock is a 65th generation disciple of the Tien Shan Pai system. He is the head Kung fu, Tai Chi, and Hsing I instructor at Body Balance and enjoys teaching all students from the beginners to the most advanced. He began his studies in 1973 under Huang-Chien Liang who was later chosen by the 63rd generation Supreme Master Wang Chueh-Jen to become Shi Ye or 64th generation Grandmaster of the Tien Shan Pai system. With Shi Ye Huang’s blessing he built his own school in 1987 after taking bronze medal at the World Kung Fu Championship in Tawain. In 1996 he earned an international gold medal in Hsing I Chuan.
Master Hancock raised his four children on Kung Fu who all became international Kung Fu champions. Pat’s first student to become a Master or Shi Fu of their own school was his eldest daughter Eileen Hancock who established Body Balance Academy of Northern California in 2004. His son Nicholas Hancock became Master/Shi Fu of his own school Balance and Harmony in 2005 in Canby, Oregon. His daughter Brynne Hancock is a medical doctor and his youngest Jaclyn Hancock is an environmental engineer.
Body Balance was featured on CBS Capital Edition, Washingtonian Magazine and Tai Chi Magazine. Pat served as consultant to the National Institute of Health and as stress management instructor for Maryland public schools. His services are recommended by area physicians, psychologists and chiropractors.
Shi-Fu Michael Reed
Shi-Fu Michael Reed developed his passion for martial arts early in life. Mike began his study of Tai Chi in 1985 and started with master Hancock in 1987. Mike earned a Black Sash in Kung Fu and also has an extensive knowledge of Hsing I Chaun.He is a certified instructor of Tai Chi, Kung Fu and Hsing I. Mike is the senior Tai Chi instructor at Body Balance. He continues to follow his passion for martial arts and enjoys furthering his knowledge through teaching others.
Shi-Fu Tim Rader
Shi-Fu Tim Rader began his studies of martial arts as a young boy and earned a black belt in Tang Soo do in his teens. Tim began his apprenticeship with MasterHancock in 2000. Tim holds a 2nd degree black sash in Kung Fu and is an international champion in Kung Fu and Tai Chi push hands. Tim is the senior Kung Fu instructor at Body Balance. Tim enjoys the challenges of the most difficult Kung Fu forms and is an extraordinary performer and teacher. He loves to teach and is working towards becoming a full-time teacher.
Musetta Engle-Pratt
Musetta Engle-Pratt has been studying Kung Fu at Body Balance Healing Arts for six years, and Tai Chi for three years. She currently practices in the intermediate/advanced classes, as well as private Kung Fu lessons with Grand Master Pat Hancock. Musetta has been teaching the children’s Kung Fu class for the past three years and assisting in the adult beginner’s class for one and a half years. One benefit of Kung Fu which Musetta has particularly enjoyed is that it exercises the entire body, both physically and mentally. Outside of Kung Fu, Musetta also enjoys playing her violin with her family’s band, reading, writing, baking, and art of all kinds.
Patricia Hancock
Patricia Hancock began her study of Tai Chi in 2004. She instantly became a diligent practitioner of Tai Chi after realizing the significant effect it was having on her health.Patty continued on to become a licensed massage therapist and a certified Tai Chi instructor under Master Hancock. She also has a broad knowledge of dietary and herbal remedies and is pursuing the ancient Maya way of healing. Patty continues in her passion for learning and teaching and brings a special warm energy to the classroom.
Kate Aloise Majarov
Kate Aloise Majarov has been a Tai Chi player since 1992 and a teacher since 1995.She began her studies under Master Pat Hancock in 2000 and began assisting and teaching in 2004. Kate is a certified instructor in Tai Chi, QiGong, Meditation and BaGua by Master Domingo Colon and Master Frank Allen. Kate is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and holds a B.A. in East Asian studies. Always a student, Kate finds teaching the most rewarding way to further her Tai Chi studies and help others.
Lisa Funkhouser
Lisa Funkhouser began her studies at Body Balance with Master Pat Hancock in1993. She became an assistant teacher in 2003. Lisa is a seasoned practitioner and has competed in Tai Chi Push Hands and Tai Chi Straight Sword. She enjoys the peaceful, slow meditative movements and continues to teach and learn.
Lisa DeLima
Lisa DeLima began her studies in 2006. She came to Body Balance to deepen her Tai Chi knowledge in 2009. Lisa became Master Hancock's apprentice in 2010 and has become an assistant instructor. Her goal is to become a full time Tai Chi teacher.
